Week 1 Pear class Group 1 - blackberries

Image
This afternoon Pear class were so excited to finally take part in Forest School . I really enjoyed spending time with them again! We started playing duck duck goose to help us try and remember the fire circle safety rules. We learnt how to use the mallets to hammer in hazard flags, we really explored the new site looking at all the things that we need to be careful of. We found brambles, stinging nettles, badger holes, tree stumps, even some fox poo! We enjoyed blackberry picking and then mashing up the berries in some hot water to make a natural food dye. We experimented with different types of white fabric,  elastic bands and string to make patterns on the white fabric dipping in the blackberry juice to tie-dye! We made mini dens for the soft toys and some of the children even made godseyes. We found a shield beetle lots of woodlouse and a very wiggly spider!

Week 1 Elm class - blackberries

Today at Forest School , the weather was beautiful with a vivid blue sky. We were lucky enough to have a buzzard circling behind the canopy for most of the morning. We started the session with colour charts and as we walked down to Forest School we tried to match our colour charts with things that we could find in nature, this stimulated some fantastic conversations. We enjoyed blackberry picking and mashing the blackberries into a liquid to make a natural fabric dye. We took squares of white fabric and used elastic bands, experimenting with different ways of tying the bands and then we submerged the blackberry solution.  We bug hunted, made blackberry pies in the mud kitchen, enjoyed the swings, decorated some wood cookies with our Forest School name. We started to learn about the fire circle and played some games to help us remember the safety rules. We enjoyed hot chocolate and biscuits.
