Week 1 Apple class

Apple Class's First Ever Forest School Session!

What an incredible morning we had with our wonderful Year 3 Apple Class, enjoying their very first Forest School session!

The excitement was buzzing as we headed towards the welly boot sheds to get ready. Once we were all geared up, we sat on the wall and talked through our very important Forest School rules: Don’t pick, don’t lick, watch your stick, look for bugs but don’t make them sick! The children were brilliant at remembering and reciting them back.

As we got ready, one of the children spotted some blue tits flying in and out of a bird box up in a tree in Wonderland. We all paused to watch them for a few peaceful moments—what a lovely way to start our morning!

There was a lot of enthusiasm as the children ran down to the Forest School site. We gathered around the fire circle to talk about fire safety and shared our own special nature names. After playing some fun games to help us remember the rules, it was time to explore!

Some children made beautiful nature bracelets with flowers and leaves, others got stuck into den building, and bug hunting was a big hit—we found beetles, ladybirds, woodlice, spiders, ants and even some red ants! We also spotted that a local badger had dug up some of the trees planted by Year 5 and Year 3. We talked about why the badger might have done this, and Mrs. Sunderland carefully collected the trees to replant later.

One particularly creative group even made a seesaw in a tree above their den—very impressive engineering!

To round off our session, we made our own hot chocolate, munched on biscuits, and chatted around the fire circle about how the woodland has changed with the seasons. We even passed around a very friendly snake and shared what we’re most looking forward to doing next week.

A huge well done, Apple Class—you were fantastic listeners and explorers. What a brilliant start to your Forest School adventure!
