Week 6 Hazel Class Capture the flag!

This morning, Hazel Class had their last Forest School session – and what a blustery one it was! 

Although it was far too windy for a fire, keeping warm became our top priority. As soon as we arrived at the Forest School site, we dived into an exciting and intense game of Capture the Flag. Each round brought new rule changes, with the children learning how to play fairly, adapt, and most importantly, make sure everyone was having fun!

 Some children got creative, building a treehouse, while others worked with willow to create valentine weaves. Despite the chilly wind, we managed to enjoy a well-earned hot chocolate (with biscuits and marshmallows, of course!). Towards the end of the session, we had a go at lighting the storm kettle. It was fascinating to watch how the wind affected the small fire, making the wood burn down incredibly fast. 

Hazel Class have been fantastic throughout their Forest School sessions – brilliant team players, problem solvers, and always full of laughter. 

At the end of the session, we reflected on our highlights, and it was wonderful to hear all the things the children had enjoyed. 

We started our Forest School session by creating a magical Story Stone Circle, with each child choosing a pebble, drawing a picture or writing a word, and weaving it into our very own Forest School story. Not many photos today as my hands were too cold !!

 🌲 A Magical Morning at Forest School! 🌲 This morning, our Beech Tree Class had a great Forest School session under the crisp blue skies following yesterday’s snow. The cold weather didn’t dampen our spirits as we ventured towards the Forest School site with our colour charts, searching for nature’s hidden hues. Along the way, we discovered lots of ice and even some animal tracks!  Once at the site, we gathered in our fire circle and warmed up with some fun fire circle games. One of the highlights was playing "Rabbit and Fox," where rabbits tried their best to escape the hungry foxes—it was so much fun and kept us moving! We also took time to care for our feathered friends, discussing different types of bird feeders. Mrs. Sunderland showed us a huge pinecone found in Northwood Cemetery, which inspired us to turn it into a bird feeder! Beech class week 1

 🍂 Year 1 Beach Class Adventure! 🍂 Today’s Forest School we started our journey noticing the changing colours on the trees and talked about how they’re losing their leaves this time of year. Once at the Forest School site, we gathered around the fire circle to review our safety rules and warm up with a welcome. Our games included matching animals with a partner, then challenging our senses with a blindfolded "dragon" game where we had to listen very carefully. We also got creative building fantastic dens—some children made godseyes and others making feather decorations, each one unique. To end, we huddled for a hot chocolate and biscuit break, sharing laughs and ideas for our next adventure. Before heading back, we held onto a large rope and leaned back to test our trust and teamwork, each of us helping each other stay balanced. 🌲💪

Hawthorn class week 1 predator and prey

 Today Year 5’s Hawthorn Class wrapped up warm and ventured out to our Forest School site to explore the wonders of winter. Although the day started a little chilly, the bright sunshine made it perfect for discovering frozen leaves and icy treasures on the sandpit. Once at the Forest School site, we talked about some important fire safety rules and learnt the rule of “Don’t pick, don’t lick, and watch your stick! “ Then, we explored the world of predators and prey. Using picture cards, we matched predators to their prey and discussed what happens if there are too many predators or indeed not enough prey. We also learned how some animals overlap, being both predator and prey in different situations. To warm up, we played an exciting game of Predators and Prey Tag!
