Week 6 Hawthorn Class - The Throne!

Hawthorn Class – Determination, Teamwork, and a Throne Fit for Forest School!

This morning, our wonderful Year Five children enjoyed their final Forest School session—and what a memorable one it was!

On our way to the Forest School site, we grabbed the litter pickers and collected some rubbish that had been blown around the playground. But the real challenge of the day came when we stumbled across a large wooden slice of a tree, generously donated by Liz Smith. This tree had been brought down in a recent storm, and the way it had broken made it look just like a throne!

I told the children it was too heavy to move down to the Forest School site, but they were the most determined group. They saw it as a challenge, and they weren’t about to back down! First, they tried rolling it. Then, they found some old plastic tubes and used them for traction. Eventually, they even brought out a wheelbarrow and rope, working together with incredible problem-solving skills.

After a well-earned break, we gathered at the Forest School site, where we each picked a pebble from a bag to create a magic story circle. Everyone drew a picture or wrote a word on their stone, and we used them to make our own Forest School story.

But for a small group of children, the log slice throne was unfinished business! After enjoying some delicious marshmallow s’mores, they set off once more—and this time, they succeeded! With sheer determination and teamwork, they rolled the throne seat all the way down to Forest School. The pride on their faces said it all: Pixie said this was the highlight of the last six weeks!

This group has been an absolute joy—full of energy, creativity, teamwork, and perseverance. We’ve had a blast, and we couldn’t be prouder of them!

Well done, Hawthorn Class! What a great way to end our Forest School sessions!
