Hazel class week 2 nests

 This morning, Hazel Class kicked off their Forest School session wrapped up warm and ready to explore. We began by using cloud viewers to learn about different types of clouds, sparking lots of curiosity and great discussions about the Harry Potter style of cloud names! 


Gathering around the fire circle, we reviewed our fire circle etiquette—no crossing the circle and always tapping our knees to show when someone has forgotten. Everyone then shared their Forest School name, adding a lovely sense of connection to the group.


Our focus for the day was shelters! We explored the different types of shelters humans use and discussed how animals create their own unique shelters to meet their needs. A fun game called Guess My Shelter had us matching animals to their homes using picture cards. 


After the game, we raced off to create bird nests using sticks, straw, mud, and lots of creativity. The children were so inventive in their designs and worked together brilliantly!

Fire striking was a big hit today, with everyone experimenting with flint and steel to see the effects of different materials on cotton wool. Those who had practiced last week stepped into the role of “tiny teachers,” helping their peers master the technique—it was wonderful to see their confidence and teamwork!


We wrapped up the session with some energetic games of Dragons, Dwarfs, and Giants and Hide High Five. Finally, we enjoyed some well-earned hot chocolate and biscuits as we shared our excitement about building our first fire next week.

 🌲 A Magical Morning at Forest School! 🌲 This morning, our Beech Tree Class had a great Forest School session under the crisp blue skies following yesterday’s snow. The cold weather didn’t dampen our spirits as we ventured towards the Forest School site with our colour charts, searching for nature’s hidden hues. Along the way, we discovered lots of ice and even some animal tracks!  Once at the site, we gathered in our fire circle and warmed up with some fun fire circle games. Beech class week 1

 🍂 Year 1 Beach Class Adventure! 🍂 Today’s Forest School we started our journey noticing the changing colours on the trees and talked about how they’re losing their leaves this time of year. Once at the Forest School site, we gathered around the fire circle to review our safety rules and warm up with a welcome. Our games included matching animals with a partner, then challenging our senses with a blindfolded "dragon" game where we had to listen very carefully. We also got creative building fantastic dens—some children made godseyes and others making feather decorations, each one unique. To end, we huddled for a hot chocolate and biscuit break, sharing laughs and ideas for our next adventure. Before heading back, we held onto a large rope and leaned back to test our trust and teamwork, each of us helping each other stay balanced. 🌲💪

Hawthorn class week 1 predator and prey

 Today Year 5’s Hawthorn Class wrapped up warm and ventured out to our Forest School site to explore the wonders of winter. Although the day started a little chilly, the bright sunshine made it perfect for discovering frozen leaves and icy treasures on the sandpit. Once at the Forest School site, we talked about some important fire safety rules and learnt the rule of “Don’t pick, don’t lick, and watch your stick! “ Then, we explored the world of predators and prey. Using picture cards, we matched predators to their prey and discussed what happens if there are too many predators or indeed not enough prey. We also learned how some animals overlap, being both predator and prey in different situations. To warm up, we played an exciting game of Predators and Prey Tag! Ten children played prey, trying to survive while collecting food and water cards, while five predators tried to catch them.
