Week 2 Beech class hedgehogs

Today, our Year One Beech Class had an exciting morning of discovery and creativity in the great outdoors. We began our session with a colour hunt as we walked down to the Forest School site, spotting the vibrant shades nature has to offer.

Once there, we gathered around the fire circle and reviewed our fire circle rules. The children are really getting the hang of remembering to swap places safely around it! We then dived into learning all about hedgehogs. The class shared what they knew about these wonderful creatures, and we chatted about hibernation and where we might find hedgehogs as they prepare for winter.

We then made our own hedgehogs using thistles, clay, and beads for eyes. The children also enjoyed crafting jewellery by making beads from elder branches, hollowing out the pith in the middle, and threading them onto bracelets or necklaces.

We also enjoyed den-building, playing in the mud kitchen, and ending with a cosy story, hot chocolate, and biscuits.
