Beech class Week 3 Snow!

This morning, the wild weather—heavy rain, wind, and even snow—brought Forest School indoors, but that didn’t stop the fun and learning!

We began by making a pretend fire and playing games like Knights and Dragons to practice our fire circle rules. Then we dove into winter wildlife, talking about birds and hibernation. One of our activities was creating cereal bird feeders to help our feathered friends through the cold months.

The children got creative with so many wonderful crafts! They made dens to watch the snow from, leaf and flower crowns and did colorful woodland pictures. Some worked on Godseyes while others enjoyed sculpting with clay.

And of course, no Forest School is complete without hot chocolate, biscuits, and marshmallows! ☕🍪 We ended the session with a woodland story.

Between the crafts and storytelling, those who wanted to braved the snow with Mrs. Sunderland for some wintry fun outdoors!

Today Beech class had their very first Forest School adventure! The weather gave us everything again! bright blue skies with rainbows one moment and heavy downpours the next – but we embraced it all and had such fun in the rain and wind!  We started by walking down to our Forest School site, thinking about a good Forest school name. Around the fire circle, we played games, shared ideas, and talked about the treasures of autumn – conkers, acorns, and blackberries. Mrs Sunderland showed the children how to use a palm drill to make holes in conkers for threading, and then we picked juicy blackberries from the hedgerow to mash up for tie-dye. The children loved experimenting with fabric, elastic bands, and berry dye to create beautiful patterns. There was plenty of excitement with den building, bug hunting, and even catching raindrops from the canopy. Pear class week 1 blackberries and conkers

Today our Year 1 children had their very first Forest School adventure! Half the class explored in the morning, and the other half in the afternoon. The weather gave us everything – bright blue skies one moment and heavy downpours the next – but we embraced it all and had such fun in the rain. Beech Class Week 3 popcorn

 🌲 A Magical Morning at Forest School! 🌲 This morning, our Beech Tree Class had a great Forest School session under the crisp blue skies following yesterday’s snow. The cold weather didn’t dampen our spirits as we ventured towards the Forest School site with our colour charts, searching for nature’s hidden hues. Along the way, we discovered lots of ice and even some animal tracks!  Once at the site, we gathered in our fire circle and warmed up with some fun fire circle games. One of the highlights was playing "Rabbit and Fox," where rabbits tried their best to escape the hungry foxes—it was so much fun and kept us moving! We also took time to care for our feathered friends, discussing different types of bird feeders. Mrs. Sunderland showed us a huge pinecone found in Northwood Cemetery, which inspired us to turn it into a bird feeder!
